On Friday night, my friend L and I had dinner at The Parish in Downtown LA and then walked to Bottega Louie for dessert. I have always been a big fan of Downtown LA. I used to ride the bus up from the university and walk around the Hispanic owned shops housed in the great old abandoned theaters on Broadway. I moved to Downtown LA almost five years ago. By then, the Downtown Art Walk had already grown from its original attendance of a whopping 100 people in 2004 to over 5,000 people a month in 2009. At last count, some of the 2012 Art Walks reached as much as 30,000 people in attendance!
Moreover, these days, it feels like there’s a new restaurant or bar opening every week, and what you don’t find often in the rest of LA – they’re all in comfortable walking distance! Which gave me the material for my first LA Walking Guide: a Historic Core Restaurant and Bar Crawl, inspired by my dinner with L on Friday night. I created this guide in Google Maps, so you can easily save the map and/or each location to your own Google account if you decide to spend some time downtown. I highly recommend it! Please also feel free to email me if you need any recommendations or have any questions about exploring Downtown LA.
